These photos were taken in Kathmandu’s touristy district, Thamel, an area full of narrow streets with tons of shops selling everything from spices, teas, bags, clothes, carvings and statues, to music and dvds, electronics, real and “fake” hiking and winter and mountaineering gear, and more. This is also a great place to find tons of authentic Nepalese restaurants, budget hotels (all the backpacker and budget hotels/hostels are here), what little nightlife Kathmandu has, travel agencies, and lots of little temples and shrines everywhere (and a few massive ones). We walked through (my travel partner Aimee and our new American friend, Nikki, who we met at the hotel) in one morning on our way to Durbar Square, passing by the Akash Bhairab Temple. In a nutshell, Thamel – It’s packed, dusty, but lots of fun and great to explore for a day!
